Natural Colored Wool Studio and Farm is located in the prairie of NE South Dakota. We strive to raise sheep with wool qualities that are enjoyable to spin, soft to knit, with high luster that accept dye well and with characteristics for ease of felting. Marie has been raising sheep since 1978 and has been spinning since 1985. Kelly, her daughter, has been spinning since 1989 and has her own specialty flock.
The wool is available as raw whole fleeces or by the pound. Washed wool and wool processed into roving or spinners web is available for sale in any quantity. Currently our equipment is able to do small production. We wash, dye, pick and drum card wool into smal Batts. For larger quantitites of specialty colored fiber blends and natural colored fibers in roving, spinners web and bumps for spinning or felting we use custom carding and spinning mills that guarantee our own wool back.
We offer, with great pride, handspun and millspun yarn for hand and machine knitting, crocheting and weaving projects. Check out our selection of vegetal dyed yarns and chemical-free yarns.
In the studio you can find finished knitted, felted and woven products, spinning wheels, drop spindles, dyes, pattern books, fibertrends patterns, yarns, sheep pelts, and fibers from other local producers. We do cutom knitting. Classes in spinning and knitting are held upon request.
We are members of the Prairie Fiber Arts Guild, and give demonstrations and market our wares at craft fairs.
